"It depends" is a frustrating answer, so here's what it actually depends on.
Where the nest is
A paper wasp nest on a reachable eave is a short job. A yellow jacket colony in a wall void, or a hornet nest thirty feet up a fir, takes longer and needs more gear.
How established the colony is
A nest in June is a fraction of the same nest in September. Yellow Jacket colonies grow all summer, and a bigger colony is more work and more risk.
Whether the colony can be saved
Cutting a honey bee colony out of a wall with a real chance of rehoming it intact is slow, careful work. A swarm hanging on a branch is one of the quickest jobs I do. A wasp nest gets destroyed, which is faster than either.
How many problems there are
Three paper wasp nests on one house get priced together, not three times over. Book several services at once and the rate comes down.

I'll tell you what it is, what I'd do about it, and what it costs. If the honest answer is that it can be left alone, that's what you'll hear, and it costs you nothing.

Wasp, Hornet & Yellow Jacket Control
Not sure what's flying at you? This one sorts yellow jackets from hornets from paper wasps by the nest, which is usually all you can safely look at.
Yellow Jacket Removal

How much does pest control cost in Portland?
There is no flat rate, so call or message me and I'll quote it. The price depends on where the nest is, how big the colony has got, and how much has to be opened up to reach it. I quote the job before I start, and booking several services together brings the rate down.
Can you come out the same day?

Do I need to know what kind of insect it is before I call?
No. Send me a photo of the insect or the nest and I'll identify it. Getting the species right decides the treatment, so I'd rather work it out from a photo before I arrive than guess and turn up with the wrong kit.
Do you kill bees?
With honey bees and bumble bees I try not to, and those are the calls where saving the colony is genuinely on the table, because they're pollinators worth keeping. It isn't a promise though: a colony buried deep in a wall or under a slab often can't come out in one piece, and then a treatment is what happens. Wasps, hornets, and yellow jackets are a different story and those nests get destroyed. Either way you hear which one it is before any work starts.
Can you do the job without pesticide?
Sometimes, and I'd rather set the expectation honestly than promise it. A reachable nest out in the open can often be lifted off whole, and honey bee work is mostly a box and a ladder. Most wasp and ant jobs need a product to actually finish the colony. Ask when you call and I'll tell you which one yours is.

Is it worth paying someone instead of buying a spray?
For a small paper wasp nest you can reach safely, maybe not. For a yellow jacket colony in a wall, a hornet nest over a walkway, or honey bees in your chimney, a can of spray tends to make the problem worse and puts you in front of a defensive colony. That's the work worth handing over.
