Step 1 of 2What to do while you're waiting for me
If there's an active nest on your property right now, a few small things make the job safer and cheaper, and a few common reactions make it worse.
Worth doing
- Keep people and pets away from the nest, and mark the spot from a distance if it's a hole in the lawn.
- Take a photo from as far back as your camera zoom allows, and send it over. It tells me the species and the size of the job.
- Close windows and doors near the nest, especially if it's under an eave or by a vent.
- Note the times of day you see the most activity. It helps me plan the visit.
- Tell me if anyone in the house has a known sting allergy, so I can plan around it.
Worth avoiding
- Don't spray a nest with a store-bought can. It rarely reaches the core of a hidden nest and it puts you right in front of a defensive colony.
- Don't knock down, hose, or burn a nest. That's how a single problem becomes a trip to urgent care.
- Don't block the entrance hole. Insects sealed in will look for another way out, and with honeybees that route is often into the house.
- Don't mow near a ground nest, and don't let anyone else, either. Vibration sets yellowjackets off.
- Don't stand and watch. If they're bumping into you, you're already too close.

Questions people ask before they get in touch
Does it cost anything to get a quote?
No. Text a photo of the insect or the nest to (206) 817-7782 along with your suburb, and I'll tell you what it is and what it would cost. If the honest answer is that you don't need me, that's what you'll hear, and it still costs you nothing.
What should I include when I text or call you?
A short description of what you're seeing, your exact location, and a callback number. A clear photo on top of that is the single most useful thing you can send, because it lets me identify the species and load the right gear before I leave.
What if I don't know what kind of insect it is?
That's normal, and it's genuinely not your job to know. Plenty of calls that come in as bees turn out to be yellowjackets, which is a completely different treatment. Send a photo and I'll sort it out.
Do you serve my part of the Portland area?
One-time services cover the full Portland metro, from Hillsboro and Beaverton across to Gresham and Troutdale, and south through Lake Oswego, West Linn, Oregon City, and Wilsonville. The annual subscription plan is a fixed quarterly route, so it is offered to West Linn, Lake Oswego and Oregon City clients only. If you're not sure, just ask.
How quickly can you get out to an active nest?
Same-day service is available across the Portland metro when my schedule allows, and I put active nests near doorways, decks, and play areas ahead of everything else. Calling or texting gets you an answer faster than the form, especially if it's urgent.
